PS3 Games Doing A Slow Crawl Up The Sales Chart

Well the holiday gaming season has begun and it looks like if you are a PS 3 fan you will have plenty to be grateful for this year. My question is though will Sony be grateful this year for their software sales? Because so far the sales numbers that are coming in are not reflecting a good start to the holiday season for PS3 software. Either PS 3 owners are simply waiting for the holiday sales to begin or they have fallen off the gaming radar for what games have been released just in the past few weeks.

We have seen two major titles for the PS3 released in that last few weeks and with the amount of hype and coverage that was released for both games you would think that they would be flying off the shelves. Resistance 2 which is the sequel to one of the only games to breath life into the PS3 system at launch and is absolutely a bigger and badder game than the first and all the great rating scores to back it up. We have been flooded with pics, game play footage and trailers for months. The sales numbers for two week are at a dismal 348,173!!! A game of this stature which was promoted as an equal to Gears of War 2 deserved to have a global release date not this staggered release. Gamers are plugged in and when they see that a game is selling over a million copies in it’s first few days that feeds into the gotta get it now hysteria.

The second disappointment that I wanted to mention was for the sales of Little Big Planet which Sony was pushing to be the new “mascot” system seller for the PS3. If you pay attention to online gaming sites than you have pretty much seen enough to know how great this game is. However if you are a gamer that does not rely on online news and hype for your gaming fix than you may not know much about this game at all. I have seen a lot of griping in the blogosphere once again about the publicity and media promotion that Sony has put behind the Little Big Planet release. Were you aware that it has been out for a month already? Recently Sony announced that they are not concerned and are pleased with the numbers so far and have plans for a big December media blitz to really start pushing their holiday game line up. Hurry up Sony people are holiday shopping early this year!
